As a city of Pittsburgh resident and a new mother, Sheila welcomes you to Urban Mommies Pittsburgh's premier moms' outing program.
As a new mother, Urban Mommies founder Sheila Solomon of Squirrel Hill, 32, knows the mommy market firsthand. Sheila is a genetic counselor and mother of two little girls, ages 3 and 1 and a half.
As educated career women, we know it can feel lonely and isolating to make the transition from the workplace to motherhood, Solomon said. We wanted to give modern moms a chance to leave the house with their babies for a little fun and intellectual stimulation and to connect with other women at the same stage of life.
Once a week, new moms gather to explore the city's hottest museums, galleries and artist studios and go on culinary adventures and historic neighborhood walking tours along with their babies. Each private, expert-led outing will bring together mothers to meet, mingle and discuss their experiences in raising children, all while sharing the best cultural experiences Pittsburgh has to offer. Women who sign up for Urban Mommies tours, go behind the scenes at some of Pittsburgh's best cultural attractions.
I meet a lot of new moms, and they all say the same thing I love my infant or toddler, but there are times I want to think about something beyond diapers and feeding schedules, Solomon said. Urban Mommies is the answer. We do all the planning, and moms get out and enjoy themselves and keep culture in their lives.
